Martin Campbell

Martin started his career at Norwich Union Life & Pensions in the Marketing function where he soon became a product designer. He was in that role when Richard Branson approached Norwich Union to set up Virgin Direct as a joint venture. Martin was asked to join as one of the founder members, taking responsibility for the design of each of the initial products, from the index tracking PEP, to the Virgin Pension, through to the One Account.

During the roll-out of the initial product range Martin also assumed PR responsibilities, culminating in running the team voted best Press Office in Financial Services for three consecutive years in the MORI poll of financial journalists. Finally, Martin also acquired responsibilities as Virgin Direct’s lobbyist. Here he achieved some remarkable lobbying victories, convincing the Government of the importance of simple, low cost products and mandatory product standards that mirrored those of the Virgin range.

With the change of strategic direction signalled by the change of name to Virgin Money, Martin left to set up ‘BeaconStrategic’ - a boutique consultancy where he could continue his mission, seeking to work with enlightened organisations that believed in success through better delivery to the consumer. This work has focused on media relations, Government lobbying and wider communications strategy, helping clients to gain the profile, influence and appeal they deserve.

Martin remains Director of BeaconStrategic and is proud of the work it has carried out through its 8 years. It has helped a range of notable organisations as diverse as Google, The Pensions Policy Institute (PPI), Interactive Investor, Zopa.com, B&CE Benefit Schemes, Lucida and FairBanking.

Martin lives in Norfolk with his wife and two daughters, loves being outdoors, taking photographs, listening to music and desperately trying to become a better guitarist.
